Harp, percussions, and memories of Cuba. Harp by Maia Darme, percussions by Dominique Blanc, video by Aymen Bachrouch. Music from Les Ilets, by Bernard Andrès

Bernard Andrès, born in France in 1941, is a much-loved composer, renowned for his colorful and inventive pieces for harp and chamber music ensembles. He published Les Ilets, a suite of folk dances, in 2000. Les Ilets includes five separate pieces: Baion, Mambo, Reggae, Samba and the Rumba performed here. They can be played as a harp solo, but the composer suggested the addition of ad lib percussion.

October in Residence

  • 08/11/2013

Maia spent October touring in Morocco with the Orchestre Philarmonique du Maroc before relocating to the “Sans Plomb” (Ivry-sur-Seine, France) for an artistic residency with the wonderful artists of the Collectif Infini.

Here is a video of Appalachian Swing, the soundtrack to the anime Calvaire Fruité. Calvaire Fruité is a collective project that involved many artists of the Collectif Infini. You can watch the short movie here. Music composed by cellist Liam Morrissey.

Next stop is Libya, where Maia will be playing a small bardic harp. But more on that later.
